A copycat recipe for the popular creamy, sweet, and spicy Bang Bang Shrimp, perfect for date nights or parties. This recipe offers both air fryer and traditional frying methods.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sriracha (or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Vegetable oil, for frying (if not air frying)
  • Chopped fresh parsley or green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish, whisk together flour, cornstarch, salt, and pepper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and garlic powder until smooth. This is your bang bang sauce.
  3. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels.
  4. For Frying: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. For Air Frying: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  6. Toss the shrimp in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  7. For Frying: Fry the shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. For Air Frying: Place the coated shrimp in a single layer in the prepared air fryer basket. Air fry for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and cooked through.
  9. Once cooked, place the shrimp in a clean bowl and toss with about half of the bang bang sauce until evenly coated.
  10. Serve immediately, drizzled with additional sauce if desired, and garnished with parsley or green onions.

Notes

  • For a spicier sauce, add more sriracha.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less honey.
  • Ensure shrimp are fully dry before coating for best results.
  • This dish pairs well with a simple side salad or steamed rice.
