Enjoy a taste of the carnival with these classic deep-fried Oreo fritters, dusted with powdered sugar. This recipe includes tips for a perfect batter and an air fryer alternative.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil, plus more for frying
  • 1 package Oreo cookies
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, vanilla extract, and 1/4 cup vegetable oil.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot or Dutch oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Dip each Oreo cookie into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Let any excess batter drip off.
  6. Carefully place 2-3 battered Oreos into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot.
  7. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and puffed.
  8. Remove the fried Oreos with a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack set over paper towels to drain.
  9. While still warm, dust generously with powdered sugar.
  10. For an air fryer alternative: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray the battered Oreos with cooking spray. Place in a single layer in the air fryer basket and cook for 4-6 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown. Dust with powdered sugar.

Notes

  • For a crispier coating, ensure your oil is at the correct temperature.
  • You can add a pinch of cinnamon to the batter for extra flavor.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture.
