Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (21 ounces) apple pie filling
  • 1 box (15.25 ounces) yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

  2. Pour the apple pie filling into the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish. Spread it evenly.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the apple pie filling. Do not stir.
  4. Pour the melted butter evenly over the dry cake mix.
  5. If using, sprinkle cinnamon and nuts over the top.
  6. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  7. Let the cake cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • You can substitute fresh sliced apples for the pie filling, toss them with a little sugar and cinnamon before adding to the dish.
  • For a different flavor, try a spice cake mix or add a pinch of nutmeg to the topping.
