Ingredients
Scale
1.5 lbs ground beef
1 cup chopped cooked bacon
1 medium onion, chopped
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
0.5 teaspoon black pepper
1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
0.5 cup milk
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
0.5 cup bread crumbs (See Notes for Low-Carb substitution)
2 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Cook the ground beef and chopped onion in a large skillet over medium heat until the beef is fully browned. Drain off any excess grease.
Stir the garlic powder, salt, and pepper into the beef mixture. Remove the skillet from the heat.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, and Dijon mustard until smooth.
Pour the soup mixture over the beef and onion mixture in the skillet. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
Fold in 0.75 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese.
Transfer the beef mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it into an even layer.
In a small bowl, toss the bread crumbs with the melted butter. Sprinkle the buttered bread crumbs evenly over the top of the casserole mixture.
Bake for 20 minutes.
Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the remaining 0.25 cup of cheddar cheese over the top.
Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the topping is golden brown.
Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a Low-Carb or Keto Casserole: Omit the bread crumbs entirely. Instead, mix the melted butter with 0.5 cup of crushed pork rinds or almond flour before sprinkling over the top layer for a satisfying crunch.
You can substitute ground turkey for ground beef if desired for a lighter meal.
For extra cheeseburger flavor, stir 1 tablespoon of sweet pickle relish into the beef mixture before baking.
