A healthy and crispy baked chicken parmesan recipe with marinara and mozzarella, perfect for weeknight Italian dinners.

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a shallow dish, combine breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. In another shallow dish, whisk the egg and milk.
  4. Dip each chicken breast first into the egg mixture, then coat evenly with the breadcrumb mixture.
  5. Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat.
  6. Sear chicken breasts for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  7. Remove chicken from skillet and set aside.
  8. Pour marinara sauce into the skillet and spread evenly.
  9. Place the seared chicken breasts on top of the marinara sauce.
  10. Top each chicken breast with mozzarella cheese.
  11. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven.
  12. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through and cheese is melted and bubbly.

Notes

  • Serve with your favorite pasta or a side salad.
  • For extra crispy chicken, toast the breadcrumbs lightly before coating the chicken.
