Bake pears until tender and caramelized using simple spices. This recipe delivers an elegant, warm dessert that is easy for any home cook.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 firm ripe pears (Bosc or Anjou recommended)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (or mascarpone for richer topping)
  • 2 tablespoons honey (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). Lightly grease a small baking dish that fits the pears snugly.
  2. Wash the pears. Cut each pear in half lengthwise. Use a melon baller or small spoon to carefully scoop out the core and seeds.
  3. Place the pear halves cut-side up in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until combined.
  5. Spoon the butter and sugar mixture evenly over the cut surface of each pear half. Drizzle with lemon juice.
  6. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the pears are tender when pierced with a fork and the topping is bubbly and caramelized.
  7. While the pears bake, prepare the topping: Mix the Greek yogurt (or mascarpone) with 2 tablespoons of honey in a small bowl.
  8. Remove the pears from the oven. Let them cool slightly before serving.
  9. Serve the warm baked pears with a dollop of the honey yogurt topping.

Notes

  • For a crunchier texture, sprinkle 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts or pecans over the pears before baking.
  • If you are looking for simple dessert ideas that fit into a structured approach to eating, this recipe pairs well with light meal planning.
  • To achieve the most tender result, select pears that are ripe but still hold their shape when handled.
