Ingredients

Scale
  • 34 lb boneless pork shoulder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp liquid smoke (optional)
  • 24 slider buns
  • Optional toppings: coleslaw, pickles, sliced jalapeños

Instructions

  1. Season the pork shoulder with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  2. Place the pork in your slow cooker or Instant Pot.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together BBQ sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and liquid smoke (if using).
  4. Pour the sauce over the pork.
  5. Cook on low for 8-10 hours in a slow cooker, or on high pressure for 60 minutes with a 15-minute natural release in an Instant Pot.
  6. Remove the pork from the pot and shred it with two forks.
  7. Return the shredded pork to the pot and stir to coat with the sauce. Keep warm.
  8. Serve the pulled pork on slider buns with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For make-ahead convenience, cook the pork a day in advance and reheat gently before serving.
  • To keep the pulled pork warm for a party, transfer it to a slow cooker set to the ‘warm’ setting.
  • Consider this a great option for meal planning, similar to what you might find with some best meal delivery services, but made fresh at home.
