Create a luxurious, creamy spiked hot chocolate perfect for cold winter nights or holiday gatherings. This recipe uses real dark chocolate and smooth bourbon for a rich adult beverage.

  • 1/2 cup Heavy Cream
  • 4 ounces Dark Chocolate (70% cacao), chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated Sugar
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 2 ounces Bourbon (high-quality recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • For Garnish: Whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or marshmallows

Instructions

  1. Combine the milk and heavy cream in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Warm the mixture until steam appears around the edges, but do not let it boil.
  2. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the chopped dark chocolate and cocoa powder to the warm milk mixture. Let it sit for one minute to soften the chocolate.
  3. Whisk the mixture gently until the chocolate is completely melted and the cocoa powder is fully incorporated, creating a smooth base.
  4. Return the saucepan to low heat. Whisk in the sugar and salt until dissolved. Heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the hot chocolate is heated through. Do not allow it to boil.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and the bourbon until combined.
  6. Pour the boozy hot chocolate into mugs. Top with your preferred garnishes like whipped cream and chocolate shavings. Serve immediately.

  • For a richer flavor, use a high-quality bourbon that you enjoy drinking on its own.
