Ingredients
Scale
1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
1 (18.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
Optional: 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Pour the cherry pie filling into the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish. Spread it evenly.
Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the cherry pie filling. Do not mix.
Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the cake mix.
If using, sprinkle the chopped nuts over the top.
Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for a classic combination.
For a cherry pineapple dump cake, add a can of drained crushed pineapple over the cherry pie filling before adding the cake mix.
This recipe can also be made in a slow cooker. Grease a 6-quart slow cooker, add the ingredients as directed, and cook on low for 2-3 hours or on high for 1-2 hours, until golden and bubbly.
