Create soft, chewy Christmas sprinkle sugar cookies that are simple to make and perfect for holiday parties or gifting. These cookies use colorful holiday sprinkles for a festive look without complicated rolling or decorating.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup Christmas sprinkles (red, green, and white jimmies or nonpareils)
  • 1/4 cup extra Christmas sprinkles for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until just combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Stir in the 1/2 cup of Christmas sprinkles until they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  7. Place the extra 1/4 cup of sprinkles in a shallow dish.
  8. Scoop the dough into balls, about 1.5 tablespoons each. Roll each ball gently in the extra sprinkles until coated.
  9. Place the dough balls onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between them. Gently press down slightly on the top of each ball with the bottom of a glass to flatten them slightly.
  10. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers still look soft.
  11. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For extra soft cookies, consider adding 1 teaspoon of instant vanilla pudding mix to the dry ingredients.
  • Use high-quality, festive sprinkles for the best color payoff.
  • These cookies are excellent for Christmas cookie gift ideas.
