Ingredients
Scale
3 ripe avocados
1/2 small red onion, finely diced
1–2 serrano or jalapeño peppers, finely minced (seeds removed for less heat)
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
1 lime, juiced
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
Optional: 1 Roma tomato, seeded and diced
Instructions
Prepare your avocados: Gently mash the avocados in a medium bowl with a fork. Leave some chunks for texture.
Add the aromatics: Stir in the diced red onion, minced peppers, and chopped cilantro.
Season: Add the lime juice and salt. Mix gently to combine.
Taste and adjust: Taste the guacamole and add more salt or lime juice if needed. If using, gently fold in the diced tomato.
Prevent browning: To keep the guacamole fresh, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole, ensuring no air pockets. This is the best method for short-term holding.
Notes
To test avocado ripeness, gently press the skin. It should yield slightly. You can also try removing the stem; if it comes off easily and the flesh underneath is green, it’s ripe.
For a smoother guacamole, mash the avocados more thoroughly.
Adjust the amount of jalapeño or serrano pepper to control the spice level.
Serve immediately with tortilla chips, or as a topping for tacos, burritos, or salads.
