Create this incredibly simple, no-bake Cool Whip Candy that mimics the light, fluffy texture of a classic chocolate bar. This recipe uses minimal ingredients and is perfect for quick holiday trays or effortless entertaining.
Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides for easy removal. Lightly grease the parchment paper.
In a large bowl, gently fold the thawed whipped topping and powdered sugar together until just combined. Do not overmix, as this keeps the center light.
Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared pan. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and freeze for at least 4 hours, or until completely firm.
Once frozen solid, use the parchment overhang to lift the candy block out of the pan. Cut the block into small, bite-sized squares.
Place the chocolate chips and shortening (or coconut oil) in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each interval, until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted. This creates a dipping consistency.
Working quickly, dip each frozen candy square into the melted chocolate, allowing excess chocolate to drip off. You can use a fork or dipping tool.
Place the coated candies onto a sheet of wax paper or parchment paper. If desired, immediately sprinkle with a little extra powdered sugar before the chocolate sets.
Allow the chocolate coating to set completely at room temperature, or place the tray in the refrigerator for 10 minutes to speed up the process. Store finished candy in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Notes
For the lightest texture, ensure your whipped topping is fully thawed but still cold when mixing with the sugar.
If you prefer a richer flavor, substitute semi-sweet chocolate chips with milk chocolate or dark chocolate chips for dipping.
This is a fantastic, budget friendly dessert that requires no oven time, making it ideal for busy schedules.
