Ingredients
Scale
1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
4 slices bacon, cut into small pieces
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
Cook the bacon pieces in a large skillet over medium heat until crisp. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the bacon grease in the skillet.
Add the trimmed green beans to the skillet with the bacon grease. Sauté for 5 to 7 minutes until the beans are bright green and slightly tender-crisp.
In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, soy sauce, water, and garlic powder until the sugar dissolves.
Pour the sauce mixture over the green beans in the skillet. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 5 to 8 minutes, or until the sauce thickens and coats the beans evenly.
Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the reserved crispy bacon pieces.
Serve immediately as your best green bean side dish.
Notes
For an extra layer of flavor, use smoked bacon.
If you prefer a lower-sugar option, reduce the brown sugar by 2 tablespoons.
These beans pair well with steak or chicken dinners.
