Make a large batch of rich, creamy hot chocolate in your slow cooker. This recipe stays warm for hours, making it perfect for holiday parties or cozy family nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, heavy cream, and whole milk in the basin of a 4-quart or larger slow cooker.
  2. Whisk in the chocolate chips until they begin to melt.
  3. Cook on low for 2 hours, stirring every 30 minutes until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth. Do not let it boil.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
  5. Keep the hot chocolate on the ‘Keep Warm’ setting for serving. Stir occasionally.
  6. Serve in mugs with your choice of toppings.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute half of the whole milk with half-and-half.
  • Toppings ideas include mini marshmallows, whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or crushed peppermint sticks.
  • If you need to prepare this ahead of time, you can mix all ingredients (except vanilla) and refrigerate. Reheat slowly on low in the slow cooker, stirring often, before adding vanilla.
  • This recipe is great for entertaining; it eliminates the need for constant stovetop stirring, unlike traditional methods for meal planning a large group.
