Learn how to make unbelievably juicy, tender BBQ chicken thighs with a sticky, sweet, and smoky glaze using just your oven. This simple recipe delivers a guaranteed family favorite meal in under an hour.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup your favorite sweet and tangy BBQ sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil for easier cleanup.
  2. Pat the chicken thighs completely dry using paper towels. This step helps achieve a better texture.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Rub the spice mixture evenly over all surfaces of the chicken thighs.
  5. Place the seasoned chicken thighs skin-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes.
  7. Remove the chicken from the oven and brush generously with half of the BBQ sauce.
  8. Return the chicken to the oven and bake for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the sauce is caramelized.
  9. Remove from the oven, brush with the remaining BBQ sauce, and let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crispy skin, place the chicken on a wire rack set inside the baking sheet before baking.
  • If you prefer a thicker glaze, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water and stir it into the remaining BBQ sauce before the final brush application.
  • This recipe works well for meal prep; store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
