Ingredients
Scale
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
2 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
For Decoration: 1 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon milk
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Brown or black food coloring gel
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
In a large saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Remove from heat and whisk in the granulated sugar until combined.
Whisk in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
Fold in the chocolate chips.
Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. A toothpick inserted near the center should come out with moist crumbs attached for a fudgy texture.
Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
Once cool, lift the brownies out using the parchment overhang and cut them into rectangular football shapes.
To make the laces, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth. Add a drop of brown or black food coloring gel and mix until you achieve a light brown or dark color suitable for laces.
Transfer the frosting to a small piping bag fitted with a small round tip, or use a zip-top bag with a tiny corner snipped off.
Pipe a straight line down the center of each brownie rectangle, then pipe three short perpendicular lines across the center line to create the football laces.
Let the frosting set before serving these easy football treats.
Notes
For an extra rich flavor, use high-quality cocoa powder in your brownie base.
If you prefer a cleaner cut, chill the cooled brownies in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before slicing them into football shapes.
These are excellent game day desserts when made ahead of time.
