Create decadent pecan pie brownies that combine a rich, fudgy chocolate base with a sweet, gooey pecan topping. This recipe uses a boxed brownie mix for an easy, crowd-pleasing dessert perfect for holiday baking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (about 18.3 oz) fudgy brownie mix (plus ingredients listed on box)
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups chopped pecans (roasted and salted preferred)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the oven and pan. Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the brownie mix box. Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. Make the brownie layer. Prepare the brownie mix according to the package directions, substituting any required water or oil amounts with the ingredients specified on the box. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  3. Prepare the pecan topping mixture. In a medium bowl, whisk together the honey, light brown sugar, egg, melted butter, salt, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Stir in the pecans. Fold the chopped pecans into the honey mixture until they are fully coated.
  5. Layer the topping. Gently spoon the pecan mixture over the top of the brownie batter in the pan. Do not stir or spread aggressively; let the topping settle naturally over the batter.
  6. Bake the brownies. Bake for the time recommended on the brownie box for a 9×13 pan, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with moist crumbs attached, not wet batter. The topping should be bubbly and set.
  7. Cool completely. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before lifting them out using the parchment paper overhang.
  8. Slice and serve. Once fully cooled, cut the dessert into squares. These are excellent served as indulgent dessert squares.

Notes

  • For an extra layer of flavor, use a dark chocolate fudgy brownie mix.
  • If you prefer a chewier topping, slightly reduce the baking time by 2-3 minutes.
  • These brownies store well in an airtight container at room temperature for up to four days.
