Fudgy chocolate brownies with a decorative spider web design, perfect for Halloween treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup marshmallow cream or white icing
  • Black food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a double boiler or microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and unsweetened chocolate together. Stir until smooth.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar until well combined.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
  9. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan.
  10. Prepare the spider web topping: If using marshmallow cream, warm it slightly to make it easier to pipe. If using white icing, ensure it is a piping consistency. You can add a drop of black food coloring to a small portion of the white icing to create black details if desired.
  11. Transfer the marshmallow cream or white icing to a piping bag with a small round tip, or a zip-top bag with a corner snipped off.
  12. Pipe concentric circles of white icing onto the cooled brownies. Start from the center and work your way out.
  13. Using a toothpick or a skewer, drag lines from the center of the brownie outwards through the circles to create the spider web effect. Wipe the toothpick clean between each drag.
  14. Cut the brownies into squares and serve.

Notes

  • For extra fudgy brownies, do not overbake.
  • Ensure the brownies are completely cool before adding the spider web design.
  • You can use store-bought white icing or make your own simple buttercream.
  • Experiment with different piping techniques for varied web designs.
