Make these ultimate loaded tater tot nachos, or ‘Totchos,’ for an easy, crowd-pleasing game day snack or quick weeknight dinner. Crispy tots are covered in seasoned beef, melted cheese, and fresh toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs frozen tater tots
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 8 oz shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese blend
  • 1 cup prepared queso sauce (or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup pickled jalapeño slices
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes or pico de gallo
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or ranch dressing
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on a large, rimmed baking sheet.
  2. Bake the tater tots according to package directions until they are golden brown and crispy, usually about 20 to 25 minutes.
  3. While the tots bake, prepare the ground beef. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess fat.
  4. Stir the taco seasoning and water into the cooked ground beef. Simmer for 5 minutes until the liquid reduces slightly.
  5. Remove the crispy tater tots from the oven. Immediately sprinkle the shredded cheese blend evenly over the hot tots.
  6. Return the baking sheet to the oven for 3 to 5 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  7. Remove the sheet pan from the oven. Spoon the seasoned ground beef over the melted cheese layer.
  8. Drizzle the queso sauce over the beef and tots.
  9. Distribute the jalapeños, diced tomatoes, and black olives across the top.
  10. Finish by adding dollops of sour cream or ranch dressing and sprinkling with fresh cilantro. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, consider air-frying the tater tots before topping them.
  • You can substitute the ground beef with cooked chorizo or shredded rotisserie chicken for variety.
  • If you are serving a large crowd for game day, assemble the tots and meat on the sheet pan, but add the cold toppings (salsa, sour cream) just before serving.
